Press Release

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security and Trade, released the following statement after he, Speaker Pelosi, and other House leaders met with President Juan Guaidó:

“I was honored to meet with Juan Guaidó, Venezuela’s Interim President, to discuss how we can further support the Venezuelan people. The humanitarian crisis caused by Nicolas Maduro has forced nearly 5 million Venezuelans to flee their country. My colleagues and I spoke with President Guaidó about how we can bolster our humanitarian response and promote free and fair elections in Venezuela. We also voiced our continued support for protecting Venezuelans here in the United States by granting them Temporary Protected Status (TPS). As I conveyed to President Guaidó, I remain committed to working with the Interim Government and the people of Venezuela until their aspirations to live in a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic society are fulfilled.”
