Congressman Sires Meets with Venezuelan Ambassador to Argentina
(Washington, D.C.) - Today, Congressman Sires, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security, and Trade, issued the following statement after his meeting in Buenos Aires with the Venezuelan ambassador to Argentina Elisa Trotta Gamus.
“The man-made crisis in Venezuela has left millions of victims, including the more than 4 million Venezuelans who have been forced to flee their home country. I was glad to meet with Venezuela’s Ambassador to Argentina, Elisa Trotta Gamus, to express my continued solidarity with the Venezuelan people in their demand for a return to democracy. Argentina has graciously welcomed nearly 200,000 Venezuelans and I appreciate the Argentine government’s regional leadership in promoting a peaceful, civilian-led transition in Venezuela. We must continue to work in close coordination with our allies until the Venezuelan people are free from the Maduro dictatorship.”
