(Washington, D.C.) - Congressman Albio Sires announced today that the Town of Harrison will receive a $41,474 grant to enhance its school safety system.  The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) as part of their initiative to improve security at schools.

"I am pleased that Harrison students and their parents will benefit from enhanced security at their schools," said Congressman Sires. "This grant will also be of great assistance to local law enforcement, enabling them to deter crime with appropriate equipment and technology."

The Secure Our Schools Program provides up to 50 percent of the total cost for municipalities to install metal detectors, locks, lighting, and other equipment to help deter crime.  The grant can also be used to pay half of the cost of security assessments, security training, and other measures that will provide significant security improvements.
